View Full Version : 2006 Performance Gauge Pack
someday
10-07-2005, 03:41 PM
I was just building an 06 LGT and ran across the new performane gauge pack option.
I've seen others here do this with carbon fiber, but at least this gives us manual trans. guys something to spend our money on other then the non-optional nav system.

I just ran across that too... I wonder if us '05 owners can put that baby in our cubbies fairly eaily... it's a hefty price, but it would probably be worth it for something so clean that matches the rest of the guages. And it probably does that little dance when the car starts up, too!! (that's good for at least 5HP, right?)

could you post pics of the cubby DIN adapter included with the gauges? I'm interested to see if SOA made some adjustments to the JDM one. Remember how everyone installing an aftermarket headunit had to do some cutting on the JDM one to make it fit.
Is he going to put an EGT gauge in somewhere else?

Megan Racing gauges are close to the Legacy gagues too. I had them in my Integra. Only like 45 or 50 bucks a gauge.

Guys this cluster is SICK!!! :D The guages are slightly slanted towards the driver, it looks like you can pull off the faceplate and change the guages that are in there (with similar size guages). Take a look at the pics. Also, EVERYTHING is included as well as instructions. You could install it yourself but there's a lot of hoses/wires. All the adapters are included. Plug and play pretty much sums it up. I could get you guys these guages for $680 plus tax and shipping.
Check out the pics! :D

English vs. metric, they look sweet but I think I would rather have the gauges in PSI. Kilopascals sounds cool (kPa) but who knows what they are in terms of PSI and I wouldn't want to always be doing the mental converstion. I prefer my thought to be elsewhere.

With all the sweet STi acessories that Subaru is bringing here, I think it will be 1 or 2 years until we finally see an STi Legacy stateside. Those gauges are hella sick though!
The subaru web site says they measure "turbo, pressure, & temperature".
Uhhhhh... turbo pressure fine, makes sense. Temperature, of what?? isn't there already a temperature gage in the car? (Acutally there are two of them, engine temperature, and outside temperature.) And what is the third guage for? I suppose one could read that as the three measurements where "turbo" actually means turbo pressure, but then what pressure is "pressure" measuring?

Those are DEFI, but they are not the BF series.
The BF series are bigger, and they are blacked out when off, light the red needles, sweep, then the white (or optional red/amber) numerics light up, just like the GT guages. in the dash.
The STi gauge pack may be extremely similar, but aren't controlled by the Defi Link unit, and they aren't as completely dark when off... minor things, really.
It will be interesting to see them, and especially if it can be somewhat reasonably installed by a shadetree mechanic afterward, It might be a really nice solution...
The BFs are just absolutely slick, and I think they have some more features, but are bigger, and only two will fit between the vents. (at least one person has modded the cubby to accept them. I know they have imperial measure editions of the BF gauges for the US now, too. (PSI, Fahrenheit, etc.)
jim1969
10-09-2005, 06:51 AM
I wish we could contact DEFI and have a gauge package put together. I'd take boost (psi), EGT (F), and oil pressure (psi). That would be better.

Is the oil temp/pressure adapter (looks like it replaces/adds-on to the stock oil drain plug?) available separately?

Winky's bitch - I think it screws on the stock oil filter location and then the oil filter screws on it. It is sandwiched between the oil filter and engine block.

ChruiSSer - So if I went to my dealer and asked for it to be installed, about how much would the installation labor cost?
ChruiSSer
10-11-2005, 10:13 AM
Our shop says 2 hr. max! Probably 1-1/2 hours but shops will round up. Depending on the labor cost, ours is $89/hr, is what will drive the cost up. There's actually quite a bit that's involved. You need to take the stereo/climate control out and run pipe, wires, etc...

Is the boost gauge mechanical or electrical?
melayout
10-11-2005, 10:50 AM
I'm pretty sure it is all mechanical.
RADON
10-11-2005, 12:12 PM
If the oil pressure and oil temp are mechanical then that would require running liquid to the gauges and thus, inside the cabin.

10-11-2005, 12:25 PM
I think the oil filter adapter, which is sandwiched between oil filter and where the filter screws on, contains the pressure and temperature sensors.

I didn't but the owner of the dealer here hs them on his car (to a point they were on mine as it was his DEMO) nd its all just like installing BF's exept that if I'm not mistaken, the power is taken from a jumper harness instead of vampire clamps.

Any Subaru dealer and yes Subaru bucks paid for half of mine! :D
For those that think they are too expensive consider this:
- They come with everything (except the suggested electrical tape and tools) needed to install them, every fitting, harness, bezel, screw, wire tire, sensor and even teflon tape is included.
- They are an authorized Subaru accessory that carries a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty.
- They will not affect your factory warranty in any way.
- The sensors and internal control box are made by a very reputable company; Defi.
- They match the Legacy interior and lighting perfectly.
- Easy to follow instructions.
and last but not least...
- You get what you pay for

You should've turned it around and asked the dealer. Ask him why he doesn't already know the answer to his customer's question. Or ask him how long before he finds out the answer for you. :icon_bigg
I think too many dealers tend to drop their "Customer Service" once they've already sold you the car.
