Hi all,

My name is Trent Bates.
I just got an '05 Legacy GT sedan in Atlantic Blue Pearl with the Auto Climate Control (which I didn't think I'd get at this trim level), The Sub/Amp upgrade, and the Auto mirror/shock sensor combo.

My Wife has an '03 Legacy L SE in the darker blue (Sorry, I can't remember the official name at the moment) and we are just about to have 30,000 miles on the odometer in 16 months. (Gotta stop driving so much!)

I come from a '98 Pontiac GTP that was modified a fair amount. I used to drag race it occasionally. It's sitting in my garage with both the engine and transmission all apart. I broke a piston and while I had the engine out I decided to track down that annoying transmission problem that I'd been noticing the last 3 years. Although it pains me to say it, I admit that I'm a little concerned about reliability with the car.

We are pretty busy with two jobs and three kids and I just haven't had the time to work on my GTP in he last 10 months. During that time I've been driving my Wife's '03 Legacy quite a bit.

I have generally liked our '03 Legacy but I had some huge issues keeping me from getting one myself until now.

1: Coming from a car that had roughly 280 HP and maybe 300 pounds of torque with modifications, I REALLY wasn't happy with the normally aspirated (165 HP?) 2.5 liter at 5,280 feet above sea level!

2: I reallly missed having a trunk release on my key fob because I'm always carrying two or three things as I walk to my car.

3: I have been spoiled by my Automatic Climate control in the GTP.

4: The basic manual seat in the '03 was too high and I always felt that I couldn't see out as well as I'd like.

There are other small issues as well, those were the biggest.
The '05 has addressed all of those concerns and you can see the result for me. I've been jealous of my Wife's AWD feature anyway!

So, here I am. It hasn't quite sunk in yet that I actually have a new car. I've got less than 160 miles on the odometer.

I come from at least two generations of auto mechanics. I was a Fiat mechanic myself in my early 20's. I also owned three X-1/9's back then. I worked on them a lot because, well, you had to. ;)
I restored a 1978 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme and drive it for quite a few years. It was "my Grandfather's Oldsmobile" before I got it.

I was quite active in the early years of many of the GTP clubs, forums, etc. starting in '98.

I'm now a network engineer by trade and own my own company. (Which sounds fancy to some but I'm really just my own boss with a few clients that pay me regularly.)

Hopefully I can contribute to the Legacy collective in some way!
