I live in Melbourne and although it doesnt get freezing, it does get very cold because of the wind. Melbourne is referred to by all other Australians by Melbourne, 4 seasons in a day. And have to admit it can be a bit like that sometimes...... Here are some 2004 figures

Melbourne Coldest Temp in Winter = 6c / 43F

Canberra Coldest Temp in Winter = -8c / 17F

Sydney Coldest Temp in Winter = 15c / 59F

thanks.

In NY, I have seem as much as 4 feet of snow (back in the 80's).

NY, with wind chill, can get to about -25 F / -18 C in the winter. Man, talk about brutal!!! I really dislike windchill factors.

In the summer, it can get as hot as 100 F / 38 C with TONS of humidity. It's like walking thru a sauna, mid day, with a winter jacket and pants on.

humid, or dry, desert type heat?

I have been to Nevada (vegas, to be exact) and saw a temperature gauge that read 120F (YIKES!), and boy, was it HOT!.
Yet, it was dry, and MUCH more tolerable than humidity ever will be.

Depends on where you are in Oz, in the middle like Ayres Rock and Darwin, the temp can get as high as 50c / 122F so that is pretty darn hot in anyones lingo.

It has gotten to 44c / 122F here in Melbourne in Summer and again, thats hot enough, non-turbo friendly
