View Full Version : A Question to B4 owners!

I finally sold my Altezza and shopping around for RSK B4 at this stage.
I test drove both auto and manual and liked manual more since it had more grunt and excitement to it. :D

But after reading all the 5mt VS 5EAT on new legacy discussions, I am quite confused whether I should go for tiptronic or manual. As far as I'm concerned previous B4 was 4EAT correct?

Which transmission do u guys prefer? Any pros and cons of them?
Also I found the auto in B4 quite boring to drive. can this be fixed with decent mods????

Sorry for being late on this, but hopefully I can help.

Some peeps will like the auto for convenience, but if performance is part of your life, the manual will walk all over it.

Fuel economy is also quite a bit better if you know what you are doing

Thanks! apexjapan2..

One more question by the way, how much power can stock 5spd gearbox hold? how about 250kw@ wheels? ??

Totally IMHO, the biggest determining fator is the nut behind the wheel. If you like side stepping the clutch at hi rpm, or don't know how to drive a stick properly, then it'll die way before 250kw

I don't really know a definitive answer to the power question. 250kw sounds like an awful lot tho (or a very optimistic dyno). Although I do know of cars in the 340ps range here that have yet to chuck their guts... How on earth a std turbo (or 2  ) could flow that much is a bit beyond my small mind...

I totally agree with you , yeah I think 250kw@wheels is not gonna happen. I think 200kw@wheels will be more than enuff for me. :)

Here in NZ, there is a person who extracted 184kw@wheels from his BG5 GTB wagon just having a cold air box and full exhaust . now this is very impressive! 8)
I don't think he has an aftermarket ECU as well.
hmm..nice....!

184 from a BG is very good. But without any compensation for the flow I'd say there is a rather high possibility of either the primary failing, or the thing detting to death...

TTs take a special touch to safely tune

Well it's not detonating on the dyno at least.

But we are all waiting for it to blow !!

Yes i am a clubsub member - it's my airbox design that the GTB is running :)

Beast is going well - just added a waterspray system - it does make a nice diff.

The only upside to waiting is that car prices are falling
