IMO, it's not worth the money
only 500 are coming to US shore and i'm sure dealers are gonna jack up the price
it looks just like our GTs except those wheels, red seats, navy and steerin wheel audio controler.
suspension is the only thing that's same as JDM spec B

I'll keep my 05' MT LGT and spend the extra $10K on the parts I really want. According to my local dealer here they are all going to be marked up with the LAO pricing (Limited Availability Option). Considering I only paid $23K plus tax & trade on my 05' I am fairly confident that with the money I saved I could have a one bad ass LGT that would whip the 06' spec b in style and performance and still come in under the cost that a new spec b owner is going to have to pay.
I do agree that the red interior is hot. I have always loved color inset in the trim and seats. However, give it time. Before long someone will offer a leather seating option. Katzkin offers them for Pontiac vehicles for only $795 and install is not that badly priced ($200-400) from a local automotive upholstery installer. http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PFYC&Product_Code=GP2009&Product_Count=14&Category_Code=GPINT (http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PFYC&Product_Code=GP2009&Product_Count=14&Category_Code=GPINT)
IMO if they come out with a true spec b in 07' with some nice performance and suspension modifications, then I may consider trading in. However, I still feel that for the price difference you could do an awful lot to our awesome first year 05' LGTs.

I'm in the same boat as Nite Owl. I'll buy the rims some way or another and spend my money on upgrades that I really want.

The only thing I don't like is the red interior, but that's me, not really a fan of the red color. I rather get a GT the way I want it and make it better than a Spec B with the extra money.

Ok, I like that color! Interior isn't too bad either. It's just like an Audi TT.
Other than that, not worth the price increase :(.

That is because it is a half *ssed attempt:( Unfortunately 500 buyers will walk through the door & foolishly buy this window dressed LGT limited. If they were to sit in the showrooms SOA may upgrade more than just the following:
Suspension.....Great!
Wheels.......Looks nice...seen better
Interior......Depends on consumer( I think it looks like S^IT)
@ least for what they are asking they should have thrown in Brembos;)
If anyone thinks dealerships are not going to Market Adjust these vehicles you are fooling yourself. These will be sitting in the showroom for 37-40K......& like I said there is a sucker in every group;)
There hasn't been any official pricing. 3-5k over is a decent guess but your comparing to the non-navi model, which puts the guess 1-3k over the manual/nav. Personally upgraded suspension, wheels, tires (all three things I would add) would run me 2 - 3k alone.

Tide, no matter how much you use logic, people are always going to see the "grass as greener."
Once again, OUR Spec B is virtually the same leap from OUR GT as the JDM Spec B is from the JDM GT. In fact, our interior is changed more then theirs is...

Yes our earth logic confuses many people here.
The only competitor is the MazdaSpeed 6, which comes in at 33.4k when you equip it similarly. Since we have no firm specs/pricing on the Spec.B, its all conjecture anyways.

A fools logic means $$ will soon depart!
Just to run the numbers specifically:
$28,795 GT Limited
-- Could you get the non-limited, sure, but we're comparing apples to apples.
$2,000 Subaru Navigation
-- Non factory nav is cheaper, but the intergration is better (for resale too)
$2,237 For Wheels and Tires
-- Not inc. shipping -- OZ 18" and RE050A tires, source Tirerack.com
$1,000 Suspension
-- Based on takeoffs selling for $750+ a set
$0 Red Leather / Special Floormats / Misc.
-- Yeah, well beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
----------
$34,032 to 'build it yourself' Spec.B

Hmm... love the tires. But I think that's about it :(
Don't like full-on all-red leather sets - I would much prefer some part of the seat trim to be black.
Metal pedals, lol. Should have been standard on the LGT's.

Are my eyes really bad or did I just see a manual transmission mated with the navigation system :D Now I wonder why they wouldn't give it to the standard Legacy GT Limited 5MTs....
All you people who think it's a dissappointment better hope it sells well...otherwise it might be the only attempt Subaru makes to offer a "premium" Legacy version.
I think it's dead sexy...and knowing how the european press all raved about the Spec-B's tuned suspension I'd bet the suspension and handling characteristics alone justify the price whatever it may be...but nobody knows yet..

I want the Navi....and steering wheel controls.....hmm... soon as someone can disect a spec B navi....we can fig. out if it's plug and play... but with 500 units... might be a lil difficult...hopefully somone here who gets it... will do some 'exploratory' surgery... hehe

If they offer one that's -not- a disappointment, I'll help it sell well by buying one. Not interested in rewarding them for the Spec-P (oser).

hmm..interesting comments everyone has. I also see that it is still pretty split on the whole Spec B a good deal or not controversy. I wasnt so sure myself, but w/ Tide's breakdown, and for future STi goodies, etc., I think this Spec B is the right step up. As far as stlying, it looks good, but I think it needs some Spec B or Bilstien badging, just so everyone knows you actually got one of these rare beasts. And i wish they kept the black headlight housings, it looked more agressive. And it's not a full blown STi, I know, but it is in the right DIRECTION. That is what we need to see from SOA, not the WRONG DIRECTION. Yes, it's not a full blown package, but at least there IS a step up from the "normal" GT. And if it truly does come in stickering at round 34K, it just might be a good deal, compared w/ the reg. GT. And it would be an awesome deal for someone that MUST have manual and a navi. Maybe this limited run Spec B is the reason there is no manual and navi together...thought about that? I think that the manual/navi. will be added once all the Spec Bs are gone. This is simply to get the Spec Bs an advantage. I'm actually trying to convince a friend to get this instead of a TL. But there's no hope there... Oh yeah, just so you guys know, SOJ released a "Tuned by STi" Legacy. Guess what? From what I've read, no real engine performance improvements. Only suspension/chassis improvements. Only 600 units. (Taken from Nasioc) So, for all you guys that want an STi Legacy, pray that these guys are sold out as soon as they start taking orders.

It looked like it had JDM tail lights, with wider "Clear parts" perhaps with integrated signals. That would be cool.
I could give or take the titanium paint. It looked kind of dull to me, probably on an overcast day. I actually think it would be much nicer in a black, richer blue, or Solid Red. Each of those colors would suit the red interior.
The Red interior... The Controversy.
I like it. I wasn't sure before, with all props to Opie, the situation with his earlier still photos put too much flash on the interior, and bleached out the color, and made it look more pink than the somewhat better lit video footage shows.
As I said in another thread, after seeing some 05 BMW M3s with red interiors, it is quite striking, and quite nice. After seeing a few 05 Mustangs with it, the Legacy probably will look better, if the leather is as smooth as the black and the taupe leathers Subaru uses.
Wheels...
Nice. I like them but they are likely none too light, and are only 7" wide. (same as JDM GT Spec B.) I would much rather have BBS RG-Rs half an inch wider, and likely built to better tolerances of roundness, and measurably lighter weight.
If I were to buy a Spec B, the wheels would likely go on the sale block in trade for some GT 17" rims OR Rotas for winter duty, and some cash toward said RG-Rs.
Aluminum Suspension.
The BIG attractor for me. Lighter Alu control arms, better dampers, probably better spring rates and thicker anti-swaybars. The control arms are only sourceable via this car or importation. Bilsteins are great, and expensive in the aftermarket...
The car needs lower springs, maybe a rear swaybar, if it isn't up to the 20mm JDM variety. But a nice package.
NAV...
Don't need it. Would rather not pay for it. If I were to get a Spec B, I might consider selling the NAV system out of it. I'd love the money for other mods, but I would wonder about grenading the value of the car (who cares after selling off the wheels, right?), and the screen bit of it is kinda cool. I just have no need to spend 2k on a moving map.
Go or no go...
Still need to see it "in the metal" as it were, and need to see the price.
Price too high, and stays too high... no go.
Price too high, but drops due to low sales... Go if <30k.
Price reasonable, Maybe go, if I can be ready in time.
Alternative...
Buying a used 05 and modding it with what I want. Black with the red interior peices does sound really slick, though. I didn't really want to think about the incessant care of a black car, but with the red interior peices, it might really be a good looking vehicle. Silver is just too common, GRP is not the right color for a bright red interior, nor is blue. Not a huge fan of white, and Solid Red doesn't exist for the Legacy.

18's are def. attractive, and the navigation and steering wheel audio controls are great, but the price and the red seats ruin it for me - it's not a mustang.

Definetely, they're selling a GT dressed up in questionable taste with heavy shoes and new knees... Not really that enticing.

It looks nice but no engine improvements, is the killer. Do you really need 18's? I do love a nav system, the red leather is too non sleeper look. What the hell put in a huge spoiler anyway and call it a sti.
It's been said before but people keep missing it... the Spec B, Spec C lines from Subaru do not include engine changes. They are suspension/handling packages. This is true in the JDM market and appears will be true with ours. I get the impression people expect it to be a Legacy STi, which it is not. Just something to keep in mind. :)

I've just seen that video and your new model has been around in New Zealand since late 03.
Only thing I don't think the Kiwi GT had was the red seats.
The 18" wheels were around way back then so it's just a revamped excess parts catalogue IMO launched to you yankees.

I'll see your well made point, and raise you another.
Since the spec b is supposed to be the handling and appearance package (ROW markets do get different bumpers with either the 2.0GT spec B, or the 3.0R Spec B, paint and leather colors only for US. 18" Wheels for all.) then why isn't it available as regular production?
Why can you not just order "Spec B" with any GT, of any color, interior, or transmission choice? This isn't a condemnation of anyone, other than SOA boneheaded decision-makers.
As a limited run car, with a high markup, it is less compelling than just adding a couple thou option to the order sheet of your choice of Legacy GT.

Yeah, that annoys me too- with my GTP, I could order it basically with or without any combination of options.
