Saw it on the news yesterday - every once in a while Virginia cop's kick off the 'Smooth Operator' campaign in an effort to reduce aggressive driving. Looks like its' going into full effect for the holiday weekend.
from the Fairfax county police website:
Law enforcement agencies from the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia will then join together in a coordinated effort to enforce several target violations. This enforcement effort is intended to send a message to the public that aggressive driving will not be tolerated and area law enforcement officers will be targeting these drivers. This effort will take place throughout the region during four waves of highly publicized enforcement activities. Each participating agency will conduct enforcement efforts during these weeks and report the results at the end of each wave. Fairfax County will be the lead agency and collect all of the enforcement data for the region.
The target violations for this campaign are: DWI, Speeding, Following Too Close, Improper Passing, Fail to Obey a Traffic Signal or Sign, Fail to Yield the Right of Way, Reckless Driving, Fail to Use a Safety Belt, and the Failure to Use a Child Safety Seat.
Sure enough I saw 6 cops running radar within 15 miles this afternoon while running some errands on my lunch break.
Be carefull out there :)
