Just wanted to say hi to everyone. New to this board and to Subarus in general. Was doing some research on the new Legacy GT and getting to like this new model a lot. Trying to get a feel for its performance limitations/advantages on track for a future project. Maybe considering purchasing one.

Welcome to the boards! Hopefully you can learn a lot about this wonderful car and enjoy doing so as much as I have. By the way, what part of Southern California are you from?

Welcome guys. This place is really going to boom in the coming months as more and more GTs get on the road. Man, I can't believe it's finally here!

Hey everyone, another newbie here...
This board is very impressive, and believe me I frequent many of them :D
I come from the Audi/VW world, and the new GT has really caught my eye!
I'm gathering my notes for a comprehensive test drive review, the wife and I took a lenghty test drive over the weekend.
I have owned 2 Audi A4's, my wife has a TSX, my step-dad has a BMW M3, brother has an A4 and an Audi TT, so I have some interesting comparisons to make with the GT, I think you guys will be pleasently surprised :D

We anxiously anticipate them Matt.
I think we are very suprised around here (the people who have been in the Subaru camp for some time) with the amount of interest from the VW/Audi owners and even BMW owners. That speaks loudly in itself. Very impressed.

I'm a Honda-trained tech, at least I used to be. Now I'm working at a Porsche service/race shop that specializes in suspension development.
We're looking at "possibly" campaigning the new '05 Legacy in road-racing trim. It's all very preliminary right now so I don't want to "count our chickens before they're hatched". But it's getting very exciting the more we learn about this new model and its potential. And it's a very nice car to boot!
Oh, and I'm from West Covina, btw.

Nice!! Suspension development. Can you guys develop a suspension for the Legacy where you can adjust the dampening settings (like TEIN's) and adjustable in-car height setting (like those expensive Mercedes and many other expensive cars)?

No, no, no, we're not designing new components, just tuning them. We'll probably be using a Bilstein/Eibach combo as we are familiar with them in the GT3 Cup cars. And you wouldn't need in-car height settings in a racecar as all adjustments (including alignment which will be affected) would have to be done out of the car with the car static.
Maybe Praxis Advanced Suspension is already developing one for the Legacy as they already have one for the Impreza.

Guess we'll have to shoot Praxis an email!

I've heard good/bad reports about the Praxis. Not sure I'd want to go with them at this point.
Then again, I'm sort of also biased against air-based systems as myself and individuals I've known haven't had the best luck with any vehicle suspension system that used compressed air.

I wasn't endorsing Praxis at all, that was just the first thing that came to mind as far as in-car height adjustment.

I know, I was just commenting. We can do that around here. :)

Aw bummer. I wish I could swap those German in-car adjustable suspensions to our car.

German engineering isn't all it's cracked up to be....just commenting.
Hello all. I've been poaching here for a while and decided to join, in hopeful anticipation of getting a new Legacy GT. Ltd. MT. (That is, persuading my wife that it's a good idea.) Am currently driving a 2004 Forester XT 5 sp. with about 30,000 miles on it. Before that had normally aspirated Forester and a BMW M3, sold so that my daughter could go to college. Now that she's graduated and I won't be hauling her and stuff on all those to/from trips, am strongly considering selling/trading the '04 Forester XT for the new Legacy. Normally I wouldn't trade/sell after one year, but a local dealer is offering a pretty good deal. OTOH, the XT is a real blast and I wouldn't mind just holding on to it. After a test drive it didn't feel to me that the Legacy had more outright power (though it may), but it was a good deal smoother and quieter and certainly didn't feel any slower, either.

Give them a good test drive jsr, then make your decision.

The Legacy doesn't "feel" fast in the same way that other cars feel fast. It is very fast. But it's also quiet and composed, so you don't know you're going 100mph. You just are.
5th gear, with the AC on, you can just mash the throttle with the Legacy and you're almost instantly going a lot faster. It's a brilliant thing.
That Forester XT, though...I LOVE those seats.

Hi Kevin! I have to disagree though- the Forester's seats are terrible.
