Sedan! I can't help but think a wagon is still a wagon. (as long as the wife agrees). :)

Wagon. The seats fold down, I have a thing for wagons, and I think it looks better than the sedan, particularly the way the roofline slopes downward toward the rear of the car, and the way the spoiler is integrated into the roofline.

I have a WRX wagon, and think its high rump yields a better visual balance than the sedan. Both sedan and wagon, in Legacy iteration, are gorgeous, however.

I've got plenty of time to decide, but I'm thinking sedan. I like the looks better especially now that we won't have the low profile rails. By that time, we'll be near my dad, and he's got a Navigator in case we really need to haul something. Though the larger sunroof, fold down seats, and underfloor storage are nice.

Hey PPower's here now too! Welcome from Panama!

I'm with gtguy (Kevin). I've always like wagons for some reason. I really liked the early 90's Honda Accord wagons. Very clean lines. Guess I didn't get loaded up with any "Wagon's are for Mom's" baggage when I was a kid. Then again my Mom never had a wagon, unless you count the Pinto.

Besides the car is still just a tool to get me to the places where the real fun starts. That would be the mountains (for skiing in case you hadn't guessed) and the far away boonies (the only place they let us have bicycle races).

I know, I know. I really should take a driving class so I can learn to appreciate the fine art of operating a vehicle on the edge. Trust me, it's on the "To do" list. Unfortunately it's a bit below "Grocery shopping."

Hey PPower's here now too! Welcome from Panama!

hola q'pasa wassappening!!! :D

I just thought that it could end up being the price difference between the sedan and wagon that helps me make up my mind. It's a no brainer on the Impreza because the wagon is cheaper, but the cost issue won't be on the side of the Legacy. However, being a longtime supporter of the wagon over the sedan, I may need to rethink my logic. I passed on my clubwrx name "Powerwagon" because of my quandry. With the larger size, this thing could be a much more comfortable Shaggin Wagon!

Wagon! wow, another sleeper just like the Forester XT, but way much prettier, and there is more JDM aftermarket stuff for wagon. If you like moonroof, wagon could get you a super size one, almost as big as the one on Forester, fold down the rear seat, and the moon roof is the world's best movie screen...to watch star:D

Dunno, now it's 12/12.

I'm stuck between silver and black, wagon and sedan. I had been saying wagon-silver, sedan-black, but now I'm thinking closer to both in black (throw some Detroit F1 or Spec B 18" wheels powdercoated a medium bronze ;) ) and either would look golden in the summer with the stock 17's for winter wheels. :)

Damn, decisions, decisions. At least by the time I plan on getting mine I will have lots of pics and ideas of what to choose and the aftermarket should be well underway. :)

No kids, wither, but I use my wagon for kayaks, bikes, spare engines, and cheaping out on moving expenses. Very handy. Save money on hotels when driving cross-country (as well as other things), too.

Piffle. I want the wagon (no implied apologies) because it looks better than the sedan, is more useful, and shouldn't give up very much in performance, if the WRX wagon is any indication.

Further, wagons, all else being equal, will rotate better into a corner because of better weight distribution.

And did I mention the Legacy wagon looks better than the sedan? The way that roof slopes rearward toward the bumper, and the verrrry elegant attached spoiler. Yummy!

Are those the roof rails you're complaining about? Get the wagon in black and looks fine to me. Gotta have some rudders to keep her straight at 160. :D

But seriously, I don't think it's a huge deal, I think my next one will be black again (they look so good when they're clean. ) It'll blend in for me.

But as I usually say, to each their own. :)

EDIT: Okay just did a little more searching around and I see what you mean.
http://www.subdriven.com/gallerytk/generated/Automobiles/Legacy/2004/034__scaled_600.jpg
I know they look a bit out there compared to the JDM, they definitely should have gotten an option for paint. Maybe they will. If not this year, I'll definitely do my best to see that it's done for next year.

Definitely more attractive in any color with body-matched rails.

It's those little things that make it look/feel upscale.

You can see what I mean though. I am definitely considering the wagon but the painted roof rails would be the clincher. Either way like Kevin has been saying (repeatedly ) that I won't be able to see those ugly things when I am cruisin' so it really doesn't matter. You can definitely see that the painted more low-profile roof rails are much more attractive.. much more upscale.

Good job giving us the side-by-side looks...

I was messing with you and a couple others on your need to double-post to get more posts.

I see what you're saying about the roof rails. Personally if I were you, if when they're released and there isn't an option for body-colored rails, I'd talk to the bodyshop manager at wherever you're buying the car to have those painted the same as the rest of the car right off the bat. Should add very little to the cost of the car but a lot for looks.

I think I'll be doing the oven amber corner removal deal too. All for the cleaner Euro/JDM look. Don't know why the USDM has to be so ugly (and it's not totally Subaru.) A lot of the USDM regulations are just bogus in my book. Work some common sense into design, but they probably have to have the regulations or the damn bean-counters would remove lights because they cut into profits too much.

Ah, more things to discuss... :D

gtguy
02-03-2004, 02:20 PM
The thing I can't tell with the wagon roof rails, is if we get the same roof as the rest of the world, or not. If we get the same roof, it's simple enough to get some Euro or JDM rails in the right color, and off we go.

From the pix, we know that there are these little "bumps" on the roof that the rails bolt to. This means that it should be simple enough to just bolt some new ones on, rather than having to pull the headliner, as is necessary with the WRX wagon.

I love the USDM wagon, and the rails look significantly better than the current Legacy's rails. The wagon also looks much better without the current hump (shared by the OB and Leg) in the roofline. But the Euro/JDM rails are much nicer, no doubt about it.

On the other hand, without the current USDM rails, what would I lash stuff to, for schleppage?

Kevin

PPower
02-03-2004, 06:11 PM
Doesn't look like there is anything like a bar to lash around on the USDM rails. They just seem to unexplicably stick up higher than the rest of the world's. I don't get it, but black would help cover up several flaws.

Dr. Zevil
02-03-2004, 06:15 PM
Doesn't make any sense to me.. I am hoping that is an outback carryover trait of a pre-production model..

It's a factory available part, how would it be cheating? :D

Besides, I feel as information lends itself, it would be a decent compromise between OE ride/looks and STi-like handling. After all, the S401 I think for the struts/springs basically just upgraded the spring (don't remember if Bilsteins were stock on the model upgraded from however.)

It will happen sooner than later.

At first I was gravitating towards the sedan, but the wagon is looking increasingly attractive because of its utility. And there is only a minor weight penalty compared to the sedan. And based on reports, they both handle and ride identically.

This will be my first trip into wagon-ville. I am sure, from what I have heard, that I will probably never go back again. If I can get the performance of the sedan with the convenience of the wagon, then it's a no brainer for me. I need something with some utility from household purchases and traveling with the animal.

Of course not. :P I really don't need the extra space, and I already have a 4Runner and Tundra at my house for hauling stuff. That and the sedan just looks better and makes more sense for me, although I won't discredit the wagon's asthetic's either. It's one good looking wagon! 8)
